The Most Significant Justin Bieber Tattoos and What They Mean
Justin Bieber is one of the biggest pop stars in the world. He’s also one of the most troubled musicians in the world at this moment in time. The sweet Canadian boy that won hearts with his sweet voice, his shaggy hair and his kind personality has evolved into a young adult with an attitude, a penchant for getting into trouble with the law and some other issues that we certainly hope he’s working through. What we’re trying to say is that Justin Bieber is no longer the innocent 15-year-old boy who won America’s hearts with his young voice and raw talent. He’s grown up and the toll of being in the spotlight has gotten to the young Canadian.
Bieber didn’t start out his career covered in tattoos. However, he now has several. How many tattoos he has, we aren’t entirely sure. Some attempt to keep count to no avail. It seems he has a new tattoo on a regular basis. However, not all of his tattoos are large, or even noticeable. We might not know what each of hi tattoos means to him, but it’s likely that each one has a special significance to Bieber. Each one is one he remembers getting. It’s certain that he remembers the occasion of each of the tattoos on his body, and that he remembers why he chose what he chose and for what purpose each one serves. We’re just going to talk about a few of his biggest tattoos and the meaning behind each one.
Bieber’s First Tattoo
The very first tattoo that Justin Bieber ever got is a seagull on his left hip. This tattoo is one that might seem a bit random to some, but it has a very significant meaning to the singer. He was only 16 when he received this tattoo, and it’s apparently a family tradition. His father has the same tattoo on his hip, and many of the men in the Bieber family have the same tattoo on their own bodies. The seagull is the same one from the epic fable, “Jonathan Livingston’s Seagull,” and it’s been a part of his family’s tradition for many years.
The Son of a Gun tattoo parlor in Toronto is the place where the Biebs received his first tattoo. It was given to him on his 16th birthday in 2010, and it was something his dad knew about but wanted to keep under wraps. According to the owner of the tattoo parlor, Bieber’s father called ahead to ensure that his son would be able to get a tattoo without anyone finding out about it. He was able to get into the parlor without anyone knowing and get his seagull tattooed on his hip. The thought is that Bieber’s father was not willing to allow his son’s innocent, sweet reputation to become tarnished because he son got a tattoo. For that reason, it was something they kept secret for quite some time.
What does this bird mean? Aside from the fact that it’s a family tradition, it’s something that has another meaning behind it. This particular bird represents Bieber taking flight. It represents his flight into adulthood and the journey of learning about life and what it means to be a man. The fable, written by Richard Bach, talks about the seagull as he learns to fly, and his lessons on life in the process. That’s what the tattoo means to Justin Bieber and his own life. At the time, the star wasn’t going through any personal issues. His success was unbelievable and he was one of the most newly famous stars in the world. Today, we hope he looks at that tattoo and remembers that he’s still learning and that he needs to take life more seriously.
It took almost two months for “Beliebers” to notice the star’s tattoo, but given his habit of getting fake henna tattoos every so often, it took a while before fans realized that this one seemed to be a permanent tattoo. Of course, now we know it was a permanent tattoo and we know that it’s something that he got for a very specific reason.
Cross on his Chest
This is one of Justin Bieber’s most recent tattoos. This one is one he received at some point earlier in the year or toward the end of 2013. The tattoo is not one anyone noticed until January 30, 2014 when he was home in Canada with his family. His father took a photo of Justin and his much younger brother asleep together, and the star had the tattoo on his shirtless chest. The picture was one that his father posted online in the midst of the controversy and trouble that Bieber was in this time of the year. He’d only recently been arrested for drunk driving, assault, drag racing and vandalism in multiple places and in two different countries. The singer’s dad was probably just trying to show the world that his 19-year-old son is just a regular young guy who was at home cuddled up with his little brother for a nap, but he inadvertently showed off the singer’s new tattoo.
It was later reported that this big cross on his chest is a tattoo that the singer received on his private plane during a flight to Canada from Panama by a tattoo artist he hired for the trip. He’s said to have gotten the tattoo because he is a devout Christian. It’s not his first religious tattoo, or even his second. Bieber has always been very open about talking about this belief in God and in Christianity, even though he’s been going through difficult times this year. The star is very proud of his religion and he received the tattoo because he is a believer in God. He has been known to say that the meaning behind this particular tattoo was something very personal to him. It is the simplest and most direct form of Christianity, and it’s a tattoo he got when he was going through a troubled time and needed a reminder that his faith is always with him.
Compass
This is a tattoo that’s not as noticeable as some of Bieber’s other tattoos, but not because of its size. It’s actually quite a large tattoo. However, it’s one that’s in his right arm sleeve, which means that there are so many other tattoos around it that you might not notice it right away. This tattoo is one that has a very significant meaning for the pop star. That singer got the tattoo on a weekend in January 2014 when he also received several other tattoos in subsequent days. He reportedly had three new tattoos in three days. The compass came in the wake of a jester on his arm, and the word love on his arm – which is said to be a tattoo he received when he reconciled with his on-again off-again girlfriend, Selena Gomez.
The compass, however, signifies the fact that the pop star is looking for a little direction in his life. Given the fact that he’d recently gotten into some serious trouble – including an arrest – it’s a good thing he got this tattoo. It gives his fans and family hope that he understands his direction is not the right one and that he’s looking to choose a different direction in his life. Hopefully the tattoo is something he will look at on a regular basis to remind him that he needs to do things the right way, instead of the wrong one he was already doing them in.
It’s believed that this is the meaning behind this particular tattoo, and it works with several other tattoos that the star received around the same time. When you consider some of the bible verses and other significant tattoos on his body, it all but seems the star is screaming for help. He wants to be shown the way. It might mean that he’s aware of the fact that his path is not the right one, and that he wants off of it, but that he might not know how to get off this path of destruction. It could be peer pressure, the fact that he feels he has to be a certain way, or it could just be something he liked and wanted to get because he thought it was cool.
Praying Hands
In 2012 the singer chose a new tattoo. This time he chose to have a set of praying hands placed on his leg. This is a large tattoo, and an interesting choice for a teenage boy to get. However, he’s never been afraid to talk about his religion, his beliefs, and the fact that he is a Christian and he believes that Jesus died on the cross for him and his sins, and that’s what inspired him to get this particular tattoo. The singer received this one in a place that it’s not easy to hide. Anytime he’s in shorts or a swimsuit this will be very visible. It’s thought that the placement of this tattoo is significant in that it’s one of the largest and most noticeable places on his body, and that it’s something so significant.
It is said that people only get this kind of tattoo, praying hands, when they truly believe in the power of prayer and the power of God’s answers. It’s said that people who receive this tattoo know that God hears everything they say, and that he always answers prayers, even if it doesn’t seem like it. The idea behind a tattoo such as this is that God understands your requests through prayer and he answers them as he sees fit, even if his answer is your definition of being ignored. The pop star has always been very open about his Christianity, and this is another reminder of that openness. It might also be something that he decided to get when he was facing an inner battle with himself, his career and the choices he was faced with at such a young and vulnerable age.
Roman Numerals
2014 was a big year in terms of tattoos for Justin Bieber, especially the month of January. If our calculations are correct, the singer received a minimum of five or six new tattoos in the span of two weeks earlier this year. One of those tattoos is a roman numeral on his chest. The singer debuted this one not long after he got it, and it’s said that the tattoo is one he’s dedicated to the love of his life, Selena Gomez. However, that’s a rumor he quickly dispelled. Located just below his collarbone on his chest, this tattoo is one that has meaning to him regarding a woman in his life, but it’s not Gomez.
The numerals state the number 1975, which just so happens to the year in which his mother was born. The pop star decided to get the tattoo to represent his mom, the woman who gave birth to him and raised him and always supported him no matter how difficult it was to support a family at times. The reason so many people thought that the tattoo was for Selena Gomez was the fact that she got one nearly identical on her own body, but hers was on the back of her neck. The only other difference is the fact that Gomez’s numerals are for 1976, which is the year her own mother was born. Bieber got his tattoo just after Gomez, so it was assumed that this was a tattoo that was not only a tribute to his mother, but to his girlfriend as well.
The deeper meaning behind this tattoo is the fact that this is a kid whose mother raised him on his own, and it wasn’t always easy for her. He recognized how hard his mom worked to make sure he was taken care of and he wanted to recognize her in some way. Placing the tattoo on his chest was a good way for the singer to put her front and center on his body, as well as opposite his heart. It’s a touching tribute to his mother, and it’s one that she’s sure to appreciate.
