ROCKWALL, TX (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The Rockwall City Council has unanimously moved to double the number of concerts in their annual Concerts by the Lake series this year to a total of 24 the Rockwall County Herald-Banner reported. The free concert series will run every Thursday from April 16 through Sept. 24

"If it helps retail and helps restaurants down there, that in turn helps the sales tax. But the major focus is the citizens, I am still dedicated to that," Rockwall mayor Bill Cecil told the Herald-Banner.

The concerts cover a variety of musical styles and last year drew an average of 3,000 people per night to the free events.

The city uses their recreational development fund to underwrite the concert series and the council has tasked an additional $30,800 to help pay for the additional concerts and another $4,800 to pay for the additional police overtime for the events.

"Times are tough," councilman Cliff Sevier said. "We’re doing this for the betterment of our community." – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
