The bad news is that season 4 is the final instalment of the series. Deadline reported the news of the show's end in May 2022, saying that the decision to bring it to a close was part of a long-term plan. Krasinski had reportedly committed to four seasons of the show when he signed on, with this last chapter set to bring his character's arc to a close.

Jack Ryan cast: who will be back for season 4?

John Krasinski is, of course, back as Jack, alongside Wendell Pierce (James Greer), Michael Kelly (Mike November) and Betty Gabriel (Elizabeth Wright).

And in big news, Abbie Cornish's Cathy Mueller, who hasn't been seen since season 1, will also feature.

"I spoke with John on the phone a few months before we started shooting and he had a really great setup for this season," she told RadioTimes.com. "And I found it really exciting and very enticing and I loved that each character really had a very strong storyline.

"The idea for him was to create an ensemble experience and I think you really see that when you watch the show. There are all these different branches of things going on, you really follow each different character’s trajectory, so that was really exciting for me."

Cornish also teased what fans can expect from Cathy and Jack's relationship in season 4: "I think Cathy is deeply, deeply embedded in her career, her profession, but at the same time excited to be reigniting the flame with Jack. I feel like in the couple of seasons that we miss her, season 2 and season 3, I really feel that she never let him go, and she's excited to be within that relationship.

"And it feels right, like the first scene when you see them together, it just feels right."

Plus, there are some new faces joining, with Michael Peña playing Domingo 'Ding' Chavez.

"I talked to John about the character and he pitched me what he was thinking for it... and I thought, 'Wow, this is a really great pitch,'" Peña told RadioTimes.com. "My dream when I first started acting was 'I just want to be involved in really cool stories.' And that's still the thing that I want to do."

He will appear alongside the following: Zuleikha Robinson (Homeland), Okieriete Onaodowan (Station 19), Louis Ozawa (Pachinko), Derek Cecil (House of Cards) and Nancy Lenehan (Veep).

Jack Ryan season 4 plot: What will happen?

Here is the official synopsis for what to expect in the final season: "The fourth-and-final season of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan finds the titular character on his most dangerous mission yet: facing an enemy both foreign and domestic.

"As the new CIA Acting Deputy Director, Jack Ryan is tasked with unearthing internal corruption, and in doing so, uncovers a series of suspicious black ops that could expose the vulnerability of the country.

"As Jack and the team investigate how deep the corruption runs, he discovers a far-worse reality—the convergence of a drug cartel with a terrorist organisation—ultimately revealing a conspiracy much closer to home and testing our hero's belief in the system he has always fought to protect."

Will there be Jack Ryan spin-offs?

Potentially, yes. Alongside reports that the show would be ending with its fourth season, it was also revealed that a potential spinoff series was in development, to focus on Michael Peña's Ding Chavez.

Whether this spin-off is confirmed is another question, but it certainly seems there is some hope at Amazon for the Jack Ryan universe to continue.

Speaking to RadioTimes.com about the possibility of getting his own show, Peña said: "That would be cool. I love the world, and it would be slightly different, obviously, without Jack Ryan. But the world is so cool, I would definitely like to be involved."

Ozawa added: "I think this chapter might be closed, but if I were a betting man, I would say the Jack Ryan universe has more potential to carry on than not."
