Eva Mendez on her kids: If they want to go in a costume to the market, I let them
Eva Mendes is somewhat of a paradox to me. She used to get papped constantly when she first started dating Ryan Gosling, but now they have two children and she disappears for months until she has something to promote. She’s has an affordable clothing line with New York & Co. for years that’s available in all sizes and has been quite successful. At an event for the line she told E! that her daughters, Esmeralda, three, and Amada, who turns two next month, are welcome to wear whatever they want. She lets them pick out their own clothes and it sounds like they’re opinionated about it and she’s ok with with that.
When it comes to motherhood, Eva Mendes knows to pick your battles…
One thing that she won’t be stressing over is what her daughters want to wear day after day.
“Thank God there’s no fashion talk. But I let them wear whatever they want,” Eva shared with E! News exclusively while celebrating The Eva Mendes Collection for New York & Company. “They have the right…they want to wear jammies all day or if they want to go in a costume to the market , I let them do that stuff.”
She continued, “I let them win that battle. That’s the easy one. I’m trying to get them to eat broccoli. That’s the one I want to win. They can wear whatever they want.”
She also also said that she doesn’t care if their socks match or not. E! has video of the interview and you can see Eva get animated when she talks about her daughters. It’s cute! It’s also adorable whenever you see a kid out in a costume. That usually makes my day. My son didn’t care that much about his clothing when he was little. I would probably have tried to talk him out of wearing a costume, but if he was adamant about it I would have let him. Their childhoods go so quickly that those moments become important.
Also, in the video on E! Eva is wearing a headwrap! We’ve seen her in turbans and headwraps for years. Last year she said that she wears them so she doesn’t have to style her hair. “A turban saves me from washing my hair and from styling it… it’s just an easy way to throw it up and just kind of like try to make it look like I’m kind of put-together.” Now I have to try that, I have so many scarves.
