Cara Delevingne Makes Sweet Speech About Girlfriend Ashley Benson

Publish date: 2024-06-25

Days after posting a video of herself kissing girlfriend Ashley Benson to mark Pride, Cara Delevingne has paid tribute to her partner in a public speech.

The model and actress was given the Hero award by the Trevor Project - an American organisation which provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services for LGBTQ youth.

After being presented the award by Queer Eye's Jonathan Van Ness and Antoni Porowski, Delevingne gave a heartfelt speech about being her authentic self which included reciting a poem she wrote at the age of 15 about feeling she didn't belong.

Candidly, Delevingne said she realised she 'might be queer' six years ago and has continued to explore her identity since then, which has been aided by the fact she's now felt and experienced love in all its forms.

After thanking her family and friends (Delvingne's father Charles and best friend Georgia May Jagger was in the audience), she then addressed a 'special woman' in the audience, widely hinting to be girlfriend Benson, who Delevingne gives the adorable nickname 'sprinkles'.

'I have a special woman to thank and you know who you are,' Delevingne said. 'She's one of the people who helped me love myself when I needed it most and I really needed it. She showed me what real love is and how to accept it which was a lot harder than I thought. I love you, sprinkles.'

For the event, Delevingne wore a white caped Balmain shirt dress and thigh high black boots. On the red carpet, she stopped to give an interview where she spoke about her decision to publicly post an Instagram of her and the Pretty Little Liars actress kissing last week.

'It's pride, 50 years since Stonewall happened and it's been just a bit over a year of our anniversary so, why not?' she told E! News.

Benson was clearly proud of her girlfriend too, taking to her Instagram stories after the event, to write: 'Love you Cara Delevingne, Proud of you.'
